A New Law Lets You Redirect Your Federal Taxes to Education
Starting January 1, 2027, the Education Freedom Tax Credit (EFTC) lets taxpayers donate up to $1,700 to EducationSuperHighway — a non-profit Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) — and receive a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit.

THE EDUCATION FREEDOM TAX CREDIT IS DIFFERENT
Most charitable donations are tax-deductible — they reduce your taxable income. The EFTC is a credit — it reduces your tax bill dollar-for-dollar. That’s a fundamentally more powerful benefit for the donor. Use our tax savings calculator to determine the amount that’s right for your tax situation.

WHY THIS MATTERS
America Has a Literacy Crisis.
First Grade Is Where It Starts.
The literacy gap isn’t just an education problem — it’s an economic one. And it begins in the earliest grades, before most people realize a child is falling behind.

SOLVING AMERICA'S LITERACY CRISIS
Reading by First Grade Changes Everything
If a child isn’t reading on grade level at the end of first grade, they rarely catch up. The literacy gap follows students for life — affecting their education, income, and opportunity. But with the right support at the right time, every child can become a confident, fluent reader.

Research shows that 85% of students who read at grade level by the end of first grade stay on track through third grade. In contrast, only 12% of those who fall behind in first grade manage to catch up later.
-
Early reading shapes lifelong outcomes.
Students who learn to read fluently in first grade are far more likely to graduate high school, attend college, and achieve economic stability.
-
Decoding gaps are solvable.
Most children who struggle with reading have specific, addressable decoding gaps — not a lack of ability. Expert one-to-one tutoring closes these gaps fast.
-
First grade is a narrow window — and it closes fast.
First grade is the moment to act. By second grade, phonics instruction shifts. By third grade, it's gone entirely — and teachers aren't trained to backfill it. Students who miss the window don't just fall behind. They fall off track.
-
Low-income Families Are Impacted Most
Children in under-resourced schools rarely have access to private tutors. Your support makes EducationSuperHighway's literacy tutoring scholarships available to the students who need it most.

WHY EDUCATIONSUPERHIGHWAY?
We've Done the Impossible Before
EducationSuperHighway didn’t just talk about closing the K–12 broadband gap — we closed it. In a decade, we connected 99.3% of America’s public schools to high-speed internet, and helped 5 million low-income households get online. Now, we’re turning those connections into opportunity — working to close the nation’s literacy gap.
